Arquitectura viva
A PLAY-BASED AND COMMUNITY-ORIENTED EXPERIENCE TO SEE BARCELONA THROUGH NEW EYES
Arquitectura Viva is an open invitation to everyone to step outside, look up and reconnect with the environment we inhabit every day.
Through interactive challenges, you will not only see buildings and spaces in a new light, but your responses will join those of thousands of others to create, together, a vast emotional mosaic of how we experience our architecture.
A tool for schools as well
Arquitectura Viva is designed to be used both in the classroom and out in the local area, integrating across the curriculum.
The programme can be carried out in three stades:
- Before the tour: activating prior knowledge and introducing the context of the Barcelona 2026 Capitalitat de l’Arquitectura.
- During the tour: exploring the local area through play, with challenges that encourage observation, interpretation and critical thinking.
- After the tour: reflection and application of learning through creative activities.
This approach transforms the city into a living learning space, where pupils not only observe, but also interpret and construct meaning.
This experience is part of the programme for Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture, a distinction awarded by UNESCO and the International Union of Architects (UIA) to the city hosting the UIA World Congress of Architects, making it a global forum for architecture, urban planning and landscape design. From 12 February to 13 December 2026, a multidisciplinary programme will be developed and implemented in close collaboration with schools, universities, public administrations, and professional and cultural organisations across the Catalan territory.
Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture is supported by Barcelona City Council, the Government of Catalonia, and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda.
